JAMES & ANDREA’S STORY

James and Andrea Stanford's story is one of personal growth, one of love, and one of finding balance while captivated by the possibilities of glass expression. It began in December 2011, as a chance meeting, while each exhibiting at an art festival in downtown St. Augustine, Florida. Having distinct styles and different approaches to glass artistry led to a compelling conversation about working together and learning from one another. Within two months, they formed a partnership, combining their experiences working with glass, expanding and refining one another's ideas, and building trust in a shared future together. In 2013, they exchanged vows and since then, have been working hard to keep up with the high demand for their "720" signature pieces of hand made glass available in galleries throughout the United States.

More to Their Story...

Though they work very well together, they mutually respect the independent artistic voices they each formed long before they met.  Andrea’s calling to glass started as a desire to make her own jewelry.  She took a three-hour bead-making class and became fascinated with how glass moves and what can be done with it.  Soon after, she set up a modest garage studio where she fell in love with glass creation.  She developed her own styles of fused and flameworked glass jewelry, some of which incorporated coldworking processes she developed as a glass carver for architectural installations.  However, those designs were just a beginning for her.  Her true vision for glass is grounded in the natural botanical beauty that is all around us.  The designs she currently creates center around meticulously sculpted glass flowers and wearable floral pieces.

James found his way to glass art as an escape from a corporate middle management path that had brought him to Seattle.  While living there, he took a 40-hour course in flameworked glass and, like Andrea, had a modest studio set up very quickly.  Sculpture has always intrigued James, and glass gave him a way to explore shape, as well as sculpted narrative stories.  Over the years, he developed a deeper appreciation for the limitless potential of glass as a material and as a communicator.  With an affinity for the surrealist movement, both in poetry and art, James seeks to engage in the mutable greys of intent and effect through the windows of his glass pieces.

Today, James and Andrea continue to balance each other. Together, they imagine and breathe life into new work that ranges from silly-hearted to complex introspection.  They never get tired of observing others interacting with their work. Whether it be the smallest child or the most seasoned art enthusiast, the smiles and conversations are a true gift that galvanize them to create more.

It has often been said that if you do what you love, then you never have to work a day in your life.  While there is definitely a core of truth to that statement, it is misleading.  The whole truth is, that if you do what you love, you will work harder than you ever did before.  And if you are blessed to find the right balance in your life, you may not ever notice just how hard you really worked.

ARTIST'S PHILOSOPHY - WHAT IS 720?

The Beginning, The End, and The Pursuit of Happiness

BEHIND THE NAME

"Blowing glass is like breathing life into your imagination" is an expression of making possibilities into realities that is represented by the number 720, as the transformative journey of choices and actions that define personal growth.

Imagined as both a complete (360 degree) reality of who a person is and as a complete (360 degree) possibility of who a person can become, every day offers a new opportunity to reach toward what is imagined.  Each step a person takes to improve, to refine, and to make adjustments is like watering the seed of what one hopes to achieve.

As seen in tree rings, some days or years are more nourishing than others, but every effort brings one closer to their goal. The total eclipse serves as a metaphor for those incredible moments of alignment where personal growth and fulfillment converge and realizing that all the while, with every change and every movement in that direction, you already are who you want to be.
